Elevating McElhanney's Brand: A Strategic Approach to Top Employer Recognition

Client: Internal Marketing
Project Date: Spring 2024

  • McElhanney, a leading engineering consulting firm, aimed to solidify its position as a top employer in Canada and British Columbia. To achieve this goal, they needed a compelling submission document to support their application for Canada's Top 100 Employers 2024.

    Design and layout: Matt Lazzarotto

  • The project presented a unique challenge due to the confidential nature of the Top 100 Employer announcements. The tight deadline of under a month required efficient planning, coordination, and design execution to ensure a high-quality submission.

  • As the assigned graphic designer, I, Matt Lazzarotto, collaborated with the internal marketing communications team to develop a visually appealing and informative submission document. The document included a comprehensive overview of McElhanney's employee experience, highlighting key initiatives and programs that contributed to their employer brand.

    • Clear and Concise Layout: A clean and organized layout to enhance readability and guide the reader's attention.

    • Engaging Visuals: Incorporating relevant visuals, such as infographics, charts, and images, to illustrate key points.

    • Consistent Branding: Maintaining brand consistency throughout the document, aligning with McElhanney's corporate identity.

    • Timely Delivery: Efficiently managing the tight deadline to ensure the submission was delivered on time.

  • The well-crafted submission document played a crucial role in McElhanney's successful recognition as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers 2024. The document effectively communicated the company's commitment to employee well-being, professional development, and work-life balance.

    • The importance of effective collaboration between design and marketing teams.

    • The power of visual communication in conveying complex information.

    • The ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.

  • To attract top engineering talent and strengthen McElhanney's brand visibility within the University of Victoria engineering community, I designed a compelling half-page print advertisement for the 2025 Engineering Yearbook.

  • Creating a visually appealing and informative advertisement that would stand out among other corporate ads while effectively conveying McElhanney's brand message and recruitment opportunities.

  • I developed a fresh and modern design that incorporated McElhanney's branding guidelines while aligning with the overall aesthetic of the yearbook. • Effective advertising requires a strong understanding of the target audience and the platform. A visually appealing and informative design can significantly impact brand recognition and engagement. Photo Library Solution

Client: All McElhanney Staff
Project Date: October 2023 - October 2024

  • To address the challenge of scattered and inaccessible photo and video assets, we implemented an interim photo library solution using SharePoint. This centralized platform aimed to improve asset accessibility, organization, and retrieval efficiency.

Research, design, planning, layout: Matt Lazzarotto

  • The existing photo and video assets were disorganized across various network drives and SharePoint sites, lacking consistent metadata and often outdated. Additionally, storing large video files within SharePoint presented limitations.

  • To overcome these challenges, we created a dedicated SharePoint site, established a comprehensive metadata system, implemented an archiving protocol, conducted user training, and utilized a private Vimeo account for video storage.

  • The new photo library significantly improved asset accessibility, streamlined search and retrieval processes, and ensured a clean and up-to-date asset library. User training and engagement efforts further enhanced adoption and utilization.

  • Interim solutions like SharePoint can effectively address asset management needs, especially when a full-scale DAM system is not feasible. A robust metadata system is crucial for efficient asset organization and retrieval. User training and ongoing engagement are essential for successful adoption. Regular archiving practices maintain a clean and relevant asset library. Collaboration between IT, marketing, and other relevant stakeholders is key to successful implementation.
