Challenge

The core challenge was designing a magazine that was both visually stunning and informative. The layout needed to be flexible to accommodate diverse content, including photography, infographics, and testimonials, while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.

Solution

I established a premium, editorial aesthetic fitting for a high-end film publication. This was achieved through a multi-column grid, generous white space, and a sophisticated serif typeface for body copy, contrasting with bold, cinematic headlines. The publication was organized into clear sections that showcase specific aspects of the studio, including its facilities, services, and Kamloops location. I also featured testimonials from filmmakers who had worked at the studio, emphasizing the benefits of filming in Kamloops.

How

I designed and executed the entire magazine layout in Adobe InDesign, creating a flexible grid system, master pages, and typographic styles. All studio and location photography was processed and colour-graded in Adobe Photoshop to ensure a cohesive, professional aesthetic, and all vector-based graphics were created in Adobe Illustrator.

Evaluation & Impact

The Hollywood True North magazine successfully promoted Mastermind Studios and attracted new clients. This publication was instrumental in positioning Kamloops as a competitive filming destination, generating interest from across the film industry. This project reinforced that for a high-value B2B audience like film producers, a publication's credibility is directly tied to its photographic quality and premium production values, which successfully positioned the studio as a top-tier facility.
